Untitled/Jewellery 2023
Materials: Plastic pearls, copper, alpaca silver, canvas, sewing threads.
This series pushes the boundaries between material and image, and between image and jewelry, or the jewelry as an image. Its goal is to blur the lines between jewelry and the body. The process begins with photographing the material, transferring it to two dimensions, creating a digital collage, and then bringing it back to a material form. The series combines printed canvas with metal parts that either integrate with the canvas or are photographed themselves, masquerading as material. The jewelry, set against a black background, creates a fantasy-like world without material boundaries. The project references the pearl necklace, a jewelry icon with deep cultural associations, from painted portraits to Princess Diana. It raises questions about representation, social status, and personal attributes. The use of this icon invites reflection on its symbolic role and society’s need for adornment.
